Disney's BOLT to be in 3-D

Nearly 12 months ago we heard the news that Walt Disney were to end production on their CGI animated movies, leaving that medium to Pixar so they could focus on working on making new movies in the classic 2D animated format such as the currently in production FROG PRINCESS. In that story, we said that LILO AND STITCH director Chris Sanders' CGI film AMERICAN DOG would therefore have to either be scrapped or conform to 2D. Well over the last month Disney's stance seems to have changed. Tim Burton has announced he is to work on two 3-D animated movies in the upcoming years with ALICE IN WONDERLAND and FRAKENWEENIE and now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that AMERICAN DOG has been resurrected as BOLT, with an early teaser poster hitting the web at AICN...

Strangely, Disney are excited over a Thanksgiving 2008 release despite their big budget BEOWULF not making anything like a return at this point. The last 3D film MEET THE ROBINSONS was said to have been plagued with behind-the-scenes trouble which played it's part on why production on 3D movies would be stopped.
John Travolta and Susie Essman lead the voice cast of "Bolt," the story of a TV star dog named Bolt (Travolta) who is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York, where he begins a cross-country journey through the real world.
MULAN and THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE scribe Chris Williams directs the feature as his debut directing gig, with Woody Harrelson, Bruce Greenwood, Thomas Haden Church and Mario Cantone also on board for voice work. Did anyone see MEET THE ROBINSONS and what happened to the 2-D movies we were promised? source - animated news
