Doctor Strange 2: 8 Ways It Could Change The MCU Forever

1. By Bringing In The X-Men

After Spider-Man: No Way Home was so successful in bringing back past superhero actors to reprise their roles, there's a lot of chatter about who will be next.

There are tons of options of course, but in terms of hitting that same level of nostalgia as the older Spider-Man movies, the next logical series to mine is 20th Century Fox's (now 20th Century Studios) early-2000s X-Men franchise.

Nothing's been confirmed at this stage, but rumours of a "Fox-verse" character showing up in Doctor Strange 2 have been swirling for months. And with all these reports of extra cameos being added, the Fox-verse would be an excellent place to search for recruits, whether it's Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Ian McKellen's Magneto, or Halle Berry's Storm.

Even more exciting to consider is that a potential Fox-verse cameo could be more than just a cameo. While most of No Way Home's character returns were contained within the movie, it's assumed that Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock will recur throughout the MCU, so now that Kevin Feige has done it once (or rather, twice, after Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin was reintroduced in Hawkeye), who's to say he won't do it again?

Even if it isn't reusing those old actors, using the multiverse to fold the X-Men into the MCU would be an easy way to do it. We've seen major characters join the franchise in another hero's solo movie before (Black Panther and Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War), so that's clearly an option with mutants too.

Ultimately, we know the X-Men are coming to the MCU at some point, and getting the ball rolling in Doctor Strange 2 would be an internet-shattering way to kick things off.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
