Doctor Strange: 31 Easter Eggs & References You Must See
24. Shamballa
When Strange is finally allowed to stay with The Ancient One, Mordo hands him a piece of paper with "Shamballa" written on it. He takes it for some mystical hokum, and asks Mordo what it means, who deadpan responds that it is the Wi-Fi password and that they aren't heathens.
It's a very funny moment and it harks back to the famous Doctor Strange storyline "Into Shamballa", in which Strange was given the chance to shepherd in a golden age for mankind, but at a cost so severe he couldn't bear to pay it.
That's almost exactly what the moral core of this film is about: Strange accepting the powers of the Sorceror but at a cost that will be difficult to him - not regaining his skills as a surgeon, not getting Christine and not returning to his life as a sports-car driving arrogant playboy.
