Every Actor Who Copied Liam Neeson's Taken Comeback - Ranked
8. Jackie Chan - The Foreigner
Why The Actor Needed A 'Neeson': Chan is Honk Kong royalty due to his dedication to daring stuntwork and breakneck action. He then conquered Hollywood during the mid-90s and was a mainstay for over a decade.
Yet, he changed gears as he reached older age, with him focusing on more serious roles in Hong Kong and less madcap escapades. This made him disappear from the Western conscience and with him feeling a recent pressure to make a return on the international scene.
Film In Question: Chan's role was not a rehash of his classic comedy/action roles. Instead, it was a grounded Taken-throwback as an ex-military man loses his daughter and he must track down the killers.
Did It Work?: The film was predictable but hardly bad, in fact, it was quite strongly executed with an impressive heart-felt and restrained turn from Chan.
When the action came into play, it was brutal and frantic, with the HK legend showing a much more realistic side to his physicality. Despite this, the action scenes were minimal with the uninteresting dirty political shenanigans taking too much of the running time.
