2. Colin Trevorrow's Episode IX: Duel Of The Fates
Colin Trevorrow was scheduled to direct Episode IX under the title Duel of the Fates. However, he left the project due to creative differences, leading J.J. Abrams to return and deliver a somewhat lacklustre finale to the series. Recently, 16 pages of the Duel of the Fate script were leaked, giving fans a glimpse of what could have been.
Trevorrow’s script exudes so much promise. Mark Hamill features prominently as a ghostly Luke Skywalker haunting Kylo and training Rey, along with an otherworldly Darth Vader beating Kylo to a pulp. A return to Coruscant and the Jedi Temple, a double-bladed lightsaber for Rey, and more significant roles for Rose, the Knights of Ren, and Hux all build to an explosive fight where Chewie flies an X-Wing, and Rey is unable to save Kylo from the dark side.
It’s dark, gritty, and feels like the mature Skywalker saga ending that fans would have adored. And if the title's to be believed, Trevorrow must have wanted to include the Duel of the Fates track for a spine-chilling lightsaber duel.
