George Lucas has always had big plans for the Star Wars series, from a 100-hour live-action television series (Star Wars: Underworld) to envisioning the Star Wars saga with four trilogies in the 1970s. On top of these, he conceived a Wookiee-centric film in 1980 set on their home planet of Kashyyyk.

However, things weren’t meant to be, and Lucas continued working on The Empire Strikes Back, leaving the Wookie project behind. It does bring into question what a Wookiee film would have looked like.

A Wookiee spinoff, however, brings back shuddering memories of the Star Wars Holiday Special, that was panned by critics and fans alike. It becomes more damning when learning some of the concepts for the Wookiee movie ended up in the Holiday Special.

A Wookie movie may be more viable today, with the Kashyyyk scenes in Revenge of the Sith fleshing out the world and the Wookie’s combat tactics. Still, a Wookiee movie remains far down the list to what fans want to see next from the franchise.
