Every David Fincher Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Zodiac
There's a strong argument to be made that Zodiac is the greatest serial killer movie ever - a complex, multi-pronged examination of crime and obsession that couldn't feel more authentically of its era.
Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. are especially excellent in this dramatised hunt for the Zodiac killer, which proves all the more impressive a success given that the mystery is never actually solved.
Indeed, the Zodiac's identity remains unknown to this very day, and though Fincher's film comes down on a theory posited by Gyllenhaal's cartoonist protagonist Robert Graysmith, he also smartly avoids making concessionary embellishments for the popcorn-gobbling crowd.
Dripping with suspense from first minute to last, beautifully filmed, and making sure nobody ever listens to Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" the same way again, Zodiac is a too-often unsung masterpiece, and one of its decade's best.
Despite its brilliance, it infuriatingly bombed at the box office and received not even a single Oscar nomination.
