There probably wasn't a parent on the planet who wasn't sick to death of listening to their kids singing Let It Go throughout the winter of 2013, the central theme song to Disney's mega hit Frozen based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen, The Snow Queen. Those who didn't have children of their own weren't necessarily spared hearing the song on a daily basis, either.

Frozen tells the story of Elsa (voiced by Kristen Bell) as she sets off on a search for her sister with an iceman, reindeer and snowman as her companions. A critical and commercial success (it's the most successful animated film of all time), Frozen marked a new high point in the Disney canon not least for its infectious musical numbers, as well as a welcome attempt to subvert the conventions of the fairy tale genre.

Frozen is perhaps the closest Disney have come to producing an all-out Broadway-style musical, propelling the plot from one set piece to the next with an infectious tempo to match the picturesque visuals.
