Every Halloween Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

Halloween Kills
Universal Pictures

Plot: After a mysterious murder at the hospital where he works, Dr Daniel Challis' (Tom Atkins) investigation leads him to a mysterious mask factory.

This is the odd one out in the franchise, since it's nothing to do with Michael Myers (although the original Halloween film is seen playing on television in a jarring and misjudged example of trying to be meta).

Originally, the franchise was going to become an anthology series instead, which was actually a pretty good idea, but audience demand trumped dignity and Michael Myers was resurrected for the fourth film.

So, is this unique horror sequel actually worth seeing? To be brutally honest, not really, unless you're a die-hard Halloween fan.

While Season of the Witch has a fantastic musical score, a decent cast and excellent visuals, as well as some seriously unsettling death scenes, it's terribly paced, the characters are cold, the story isn't involving enough and the final act was misjudged. It's weird without being thrilling and feels very anticlimactic.

It's a shame this wasn't a better film, as we could've got an interesting anthology franchise instead of a seemingly endless stream of disappointing slasher films. Sadly, the poor reception to Season of the Witch killed the idea of an anthology series.
