Every Headline MCU Protagonist Ranked From Worst To Best
18. Sam Wilson - The Falcon And The Winter Soldier
We didn’t know much about Sam Wilson for most of the films. He was more of a supporting character and did an excellent job at being that. This is why his switch into a central protagonist role was a little rough.
The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is a series that deals with many themes, so much so that it sometimes feels like it’s being crushed under the weight of its own ambition. It never really feels like the show (and, consequently, Sam Wilson) has one particular direction it wants to head in. Because of this, it’s harder to form an emotional connection with a character we already didn’t know much about.
Though, that’s not to say he’s a bad character. Notably, his transformation into Captain America was well written and appropriately foreshadowed back in Endgame, leading to a pretty satisfying conclusion that wraps his character arc nicely.
His struggle to accept what Captain America is and what he represents makes you get behind the character and want to see him succeed, something that’s a sign of a good protagonist.
While there have seen better in the MCU, the Falcon is still memorable in his own way.
