Every Hellraiser Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Hellraiser II: Hellbound
The first Hellraiser sequel is often cited as the fan favourite, and with good reason. It successfully expands the world Barker gave us a glimpse of in the original with its sprawling depiction of the hell dimension and unsettling special effects.
The movie picks up directly after its predecessor and wastes no time recapturing its tone and essence as a damaged Kirsty rants and raves about demons and puzzle boxes at a psychiatric hospital.
But Hellraiser II is a game of two half and the entire film falls down a demonic rabbit hole midway through, treating viewers to harrowing visuals as it plunges them into a hell wrought in the imagination of Barker.
Hellbound is certainly a spectacle from this point onwards, but it’s an incoherent one.
There are too many stray plot threats to weave together by the time the film reaches its conclusion, and as a result, it ends with an anticlimactic whimper.
Not only does the final stretch rushed, exactly why Pinhead submitted to the power-mad Channard so easily is even more of a puzzle than the Lament Configuration. He has an array of lethal hooks and chains at his disposal, for crying out loud!
