Hocus Pocus 2 was neither as good as we all wanted it to be, nor as bad as we feared. That is to say, it's a perfectly watchable belated follow-up that does nothing to besmirch what came before, even if it doesn't get close to the original's charm.

Sure, it ticks basically all the Legacy Sequel boxes in thoroughly systematic fashion, but Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy's continued enthusiasm for their iconic witch characters does it a lot of favours.

The new characters aren't up to much, and the Walgreens product placement is truly dreadful, but it basically does enough to feel like a sequel created out of passion rather than purely cynical, brand-reinforcing motivations.
