Every Pixar Movie Ranked Worst To Best
7. Up
There's a rather unfair suggestion that Up is only classed as a great movie because it has one of the best opening montages of all time. That heart-breaking tale of a life of love and then loss could have been a movie in its own right, so to have that kind of emotional rollercoaster all crammed in before the main event was a quite profound experience.
The rest of the film never quite matches the heights of the montage, but it's still a beautiful story that explores lost youth, dreams and the eternal, enduring power of adventure. Even if, at times, it feels like certain elements have been forced in for the sake of making it a more family-friendly movie.
As with most great Pixars, it's all about the central relationship between Carl and Russell rather than just what they do together. We see both of them grow, but it's Russell's impact on the lonely, cantankerous Carl (who eventually sees past his stoic grumpiness to realise that Russell needs someone) that really rings the truest.
As a final endorsement, if you can somehow see a squirrel and not shout "SQUIRREL" in Dug's voice, you've obviously never seen it.
