Every Screen Batman Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Ben Affleck

Batman Ben Affleck
Warner Bros.

Despite all that criticism when he was first cast, Ben Affleck's Batman is a wonderful creation in troubled context. Putting aside the killing - which can be put down to a bad script - Affleck does incredibly well with the material. He is conflicted, haunted and more than anything, absolutely fearsome in physique and presence. This is a Batman who could strike fear through flexing alone.

The only issue for Affleck's performance is the lack of balance. Thanks to some poor decision making by Zack Snyder, we're not given any real sense of Affleck as Bruce Wayne - or at least not Wayne as a social construct designed to disguise the real Bruce Wayne.

There were flashes of the necessary douche-baggery - like his sparring with Wonder Woman - but it really didn't go far enough, and the missing pieces meant Bruce Wayne simply wouldn't have convinced anyone that he wasn't Batman. Without the constructed surface level, this was a hulking businessman who ran towards collapsing buildings - if everyone watching didn't immediately realise he was Batman, they clearly weren't paying attention.
