Every Stephen King Movie Ranked Worst To Best
19. Doctor Sleep (2019)
Over the years, Mike Flanagan has emerged as a true champion of bringing King's work to the big screen, which isn't surprising given his expert adaptations of horror giants Edgar Allan Poe and Shirley Jackson over on Netflix.
Doctor Sleep, crafted as a sequel to Kubrick's classic The Shining, follows an adult Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) as he deals with the lingering horror of his psychic abilities, and faces off with new evil.
The results are, honestly, astounding for long stretches, with Flanagan's eye for the macabre bringing great terror to King's dense but moody novel, and McGregor working wonders portraying a man lost to the past. It eventually runs out of steam (sorry), but the build-up to its dying ebbs is deeply admirable.
