Every X-Men Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
6. X-Men: Apocalypse
Quite how anyone is calling Apocalypse one of the worst films in this franchise is utterly beyond me. Yes, it has its issues - like forgetting the need for an actual script for the climax, and some fairly stupid broad strokes - but it's the kind of spectacle that The Last Stand tried to be.
If you can't get excited about a hammy villain with interchangeable powers seeking to destroy all of humanity because they worship their iPods and hamburgers too much, alongside his camp as Christmas Four Horsemen, you've grown sick of life. Oscar Isaac might be buried under too much make-up (and have giant immovable foam hands), but he's a villain from the 90s Animated Series in true form and that shouldn't be a problem.
The old cast are good (Mystique gets the biggest chance to shine, Xavier is a hot, slightly Hugh Grantish teacher), and the new cast - including Quicksilver in a cleverly expanded role - offer hope for the future. Which is clearly going to be another Dark Phoenix Saga.
It will have its critics (and it already does), but Apocalypse is a solidly entertaining, at times ludicrously thrilling spectacle that combines ideas that have run throughout the series with moments of pure fan service. And it deserves better from those who see it.
