Golden Globes 2021: The Snubs And Surprises

10. Snub: One Night In Miami... - Best Film Drama

Promising Young Woman

One Night in Miami... wasn't shut out completely but it definitely underperformed. The incredible Leslie Odom Jr. managed to become a dual nominee with nods for his fantastic performance as Sam Cooke and for also writing the original song attached to the film. The incomparable Regina King also got her nomination for directing the film but aside from that, One Night in Miami... had a disappointing showing.

An argument could be made that other members of the cast should have received a nomination (most notably Kingsley Ben-Adir) or perhaps the exceptionally adapted screenplay deserved some attention also. While these are all true, One Night in Miami's most egregious omission was in the Best Film Drama category.

One of the best films of the year and an incredibly timely and relative narrative for today, One Night in Miami... deserved to be appreciated as a whole, not just for King and Odom Jr. That being said, when asked which film it would replace in the Drama category, the answer is not easy.
