Harry Potter: 10 Most Heart-Breaking Movie Moments
5. Sirius Black Falls Through The Veil
The Prisoner of Azkaban contains a terrific plot twist that convicted mass murderer Sirius Black was actually one of the good guys all along, not the man responsible for the deaths of Harry's parents as the boy believed. This makes Harry, who had previously considered the idea of killing the man, see a completely different side to his godfather.
Gary Oldman provided a reassuring warmth as Sirius Black and his on and offscreen relationship with Daniel Radcliffe is very endearing, making his tragic death during the climax of Order of the Pheonix all the more impactful.
When Bellatrix Lestrange shoots a fatal killing curse at Sirius, both Harry and fans alike were stunned to see a beloved character depart so suddenly and be ripped away from his godson so cruelly.
The bond Harry had formed with his godfather over the course of three films was strong and the silent screams of despair from Radcliffe, as David Thewlis' Remus Lupin desperately tries to comfort him, reinforce all that this poor boy has lost in his young life.
