2. Helena Ravenclaw – Stole Her Mother’s Diadem And Told Tom Riddle Where It Was Hidden
Helena Ravenclaw (more commonly known as the Grey Lady) was the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw – one of the four founders of Hogwarts. During her lifetime, Helena stole her mother’s magical diadem and fled to a forest in Albania. And before she was tracked down and murdered by the Bloody Baron, Helena hid the diadem in a hollow tree.
As a ghost, she was then questioned about the location of the diadem by Tom Riddle. Though the details of this conversation were never revealed, Helena ultimately gave Riddle the information he needed to locate the diadem – which he then turned into a Horcrux.
Whilst Riddle certainly had a gift for manipulation, this still doesn’t explain why Helena was so willing to give away the location of her mother’s diadem. If she’d told a Ravenclaw student, this would be somewhat understandable. But Riddle was a Slytherin, and as such, her decision to tell him about the diadem makes no sense whatsoever.
