How Avengers Endgame Completely Changes Spider-Man: Far From Home's Trailer
3. ...And Why He Doesn't Want To Be Spider-Man
So, with it having been established that Far From Home will take place after Endgame, it becomes a lot easier to understand the themes the trailer raised. Peter is reluctant to take the Spidey suit with him because, the last time he did, he pretty much died. Not only that, but his mentor - the man who made both his suits for him, and who played a major role in Pete becoming the hero he is today - just passed away.
It's a lot of baggage to unpack, and in escaping to Europe, we can expect Pete and his fellow classmates to navigate the trauma inflicted by Thanos' actions.
The first entry in Jon Watts' Spider-Man trilogy owed much to John Hughes' films of the 1980s, with the film even including an explicit reference to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Hughes' films made a habit of broaching childhood trauma in an honest and sometimes devastating manner, and with Far From Home's cast becoming more of an ensemble, it could be the case that it becomes The Breakfast Club to Homecoming's Ferris.
There won't be a shortage of grief or tragedy in Far From Home, and that may yet cement the sequel as one of the more salient entries in the MCU yet.
Ultimately, Pete's going to have to find a way to put the suit back on. Actually doing so, however, might be a lot easier said than done.
