So far, no one really knows why Nick Fury and Maria Hill are involved in the next Spider-Man film. It's obviously tied to Mysterio in some way, and it might even be possible that Fury is using Peter as a means to get closer to Jake Gyllenhaal's character in order to discern his true intentions. However, for the time being, we have relatively little to go off.

That may even be the case despite the added context provided by Endgame. Peter doesn't meet either Fury or Hill at Tony Stark's funeral, and though there was a look at what's to come with Captain America, Guardians, and potentially even Black Panther, Spidey's future wasn't addressed.

Until last week, Far From Home was considered to be the first entry in Phase Four. Kevin Feige clarified the film's status last week, saying that "It's the end of the third phase." But even though that may now be the case, audiences can still expect the film to tee-up the future of the franchise; perhaps not to the scale seen in Endgame, but still, there will be set-up for future Marvel movies in Far From Home.

With Iron Man gone, Thor in space and Black Widow dead, it's clear the Avengers need a reshuffle. Could that be why Fury's working with Peter? He already assembled a team once before. Who's to say he won't do it again?
