How The Flash Will Solve DC's Batman Problem
Crisis On Infinite Batmans
We've discussed how DC's affinity for the Caped Crusader could lead to an undeniably confusing couple of years for the fans - or at least those who aren't analyzing every major update within the franchise(s) - so before we jump into how The Flash will save the day, let's have a bit of a history (and future) lesson, shall we?
Though we're eight films deep into the DCEU, Batman hasn't been seen on the big screen in three years. His last appearance was in the reviled Justice League and, following the controversy surrounding that film, Warner Bros. temporarily retired the character and focused on others while Ben Affleck announced his departure from the role.
But The Dark Knight will return to the silver screen in Matt Reeves' The Batman when Robert Pattinson puts on the cowl. This will be a completely standalone project that is not in any way tied to the DCEU and might even kick off its own standalone trilogy.
You with us so far? Good. Well less than a year later, two Dark Knights of old will rise when Affleck will return in the role everyone thought he had left alongside Michael Keaton - who reprises the role of Batman for the first time in 30 years. Like Pattinson, the latter's Batman isn't part of the DCEU, so what on earth is he doing in a DCEU film? And, for that matter, will these two end up undermining Pattinson's performance?
Well, that's where The Flash comes in...
