After failing to land a film distributor, Curry Baker dropped his feature debut, Milk & Serial, on YouTube for free. Even though the found-footage horror could've vanished into obscurity, Baker's passion project went viral, which has led to something of a sudden rise to genre stardom.

Though producer James Harris was keen on turning Baker's short, The Chair, into a feature, the pair pivoted to an original idea, which became Obsession. The premise of the film revolves around a music store employee whose life implodes after wishing for his crush to reciprocate his love.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, Obsession has already racked up multiple award nominations.

It's also worth mentioning that Milk & Serial was heavily limited by its minuscule $800 budget. Now that Baker has significantly more money and resources, it'll be interesting to see what he cooks up this time. If Obsession fully delivers (which early reviews indicate it has), Baker could become horror's next breakout director.
