Incredibles 2 Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs
4. It Brilliantly Combines Family Drama & Superhero Shenanigans
Though some fans were a little sceptical that the film might focus a little too eagerly on Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) being a "stay-at-home dad" while Mrs. Incredible (Holly Hunter) heads out to try and rehabilitate the image of superheroes, that's not the case at all.
The film expertly balances the drama at home - which is always wrapped in a winning layer of comedy - with its tenaciously-wrought superhero chaos, before eventually colliding the two plots together in act three.
Worry not, Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile) isn't some overly cute hindrance to the film: he's adorable in a way that doesn't feel cynical, in large part thanks to the countless hilarious sight gags revolving around his extensive and surprising power-set.
Though a comic book comedy focused on superheroes struggling to juggle their public and private lives isn't exactly a new idea, to pull it off with such tonal balance and note-perfect pacing is extremely impressive indeed.
