It's Time We All Admit Looney Tunes: Back In Action Is BETTER Than Space Jam
All things considered, it watches like a lovely tribute to the characters, with aims of lionizing them rather than simply using their clout to cash-in.
Unfortunately, with the film bombing commercially in the stacked year of 2003, Warner began to lose faith in their legendary characters. They would later try a hard reboot of the brand with Loonatics Unleashed, which... was really edgy, and didn't really work out as the studio intended.
Overall, with Space Jam: A New Legacy slated to come out in July of next year, many people look back on the original Space Jam as the peak of Looney Tunes popularity, and the best work the franchise ever did. While they may be right as far as relevance goes, Looney Tunes still had yet to reach their artistic zenith. With Back In Action, they proved that they didn't need Jordan to do their best work, something Jordan's Bulls were never capable of.
