James Bond Legend Sir Sean Connery Dies Aged 90
Connery won an Oscar in 1988 for his role in The Untouchables.
Legendary James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery has died at the age 90, the star's family have stated.
Known for his stellar turn as 007 (a role he played for seven of the spy films) and fondly remembered as arguably the greatest Bond of all time, Connery died peacefully in his sleep in the Bahamas after being "unwell for some time".
Connery's son, James, revealed that his father "had many of his family who could be in the Bahamas around him" when he passed away. He also added:
"We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time. A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor."
Throughout his illustrious career, Connery excelled in a number of now iconic roles. On top of memorable performances in films like Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, The Rock and The Hunt for Red October, the Scottish acting star took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1988 for his turn as Irish cop Jim Malone in The Untouchables.
The unmistakable performer was eventually knighted by the Queen in 2000 and celebrated his 90th birthday in August of this year.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family at this time.
