Jigsaw Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

4. The Dull, Unimaginative Traps

Jigsaw Shotgun
Lionsgate

Perhaps the most disappointing thing about Jigsaw is that the traps are really, really dull for the most part. Lacking the darkly comic bent of the earlier films in the series, most of this movie's traps feel like lazy tweaks on earlier ones, but without any of the amusing moral relativism.

Most of the traps feel like they were thought up in a half-hour pitch meeting rather than given much creative input, which is ultimately emblematic of the movie entire: rushed, lazy, and given the seven years it spent in gestation, ludicrously underwhelming.

If you were hoping for something as outrageously satirical as Saw VI's Pound of Flesh trap, it's probably best to stick to your Blu-ray collection.
