4. It's Full Of Surprises

No spoilers here of course, but if you thought you knew precisely the direction John Wick 3's seemingly simplistic plot was headed, you're probably wrong about that.

The second half of the movie in particularly throws viewers a number of surprise curve-balls which twist the plot in unexpected directions, adding ever-more wrinkles which only tighten the noose around John's neck ahead of the climax.

Some beats supposedly "given away" by the trailers were intentional feats of misdirection, and all the way to the finish line, it's a film that keeps subverting what the audience thinks they're about to see.

That's not to call John Wick 3 startlingly ambitious as narratives go, but it doesn't merely take the travelled story path you were probably expecting.
