Joss Whedon: 10 Films He Should Work On Next

6. Afterlife

In 1994, Whedon worked on another as-yet-unused script that he could now return to. It was a sci-fi film called Afterlife, which focused on a scientist named Daniel who died early on in the script. He was resurrected by the government, had his mind transplanted into a younger body, and was forced to continue his work at a secure facility called the Tank (without ever leaving or contacting his wife). This causes all sorts of drama, especially when Daniel escapes and finds that the new body he€™s been given is that of a thought-dead serial killer. The Tank staff hunt him down, as do the police. All the while, his new body€™s original murderous personality attempts to resurface and take control. All this has the makings of a cool, action-packed movie with a clear protagonist and an exciting world for Whedon to play in. There€™s one problem, though €“ Whedon took a few of these ideas and used them in his TV show Dollhouse, meaning that the originality of Afterlife has been diminished somewhat. That said, Dollhouse wasn€™t the most-watched show of all time, so Whedon would probably get away with using similar ideas on the big screen all these years later. A rewrite or two might be needed, but he could certainly revive this project if he wanted to. It€™s not the likeliest possibility on this list, but it could happen.
