13. How Come Everyone Forgave Superman?

The film opens with the firm establishing message that Superman's death has devastated the world, robbing it of rob and causing the emotional turmoil that draws the attention of the Mother Boxes.

But why is everyone suddenly so upset by Superman's death? At the end of Man of Steel, the world had turned against him for the destruction of Metropolis and there was still significant anxiety over the threat of alien invasion. It was very clear in Suicide Squad that the government were playing up to that too, which makes sense since Superman and Doomsday would have been seen as the same sort of alien threat.

He dies the target of a smear campaign painting him as a terrorist who suspiciously survived a bomb attack on Congress unscathed. Sure, he killed Doomsday in the end, but there's no way the intervening time has allowed EVERYONE to fall in love with him again. They didn't even love him in the first place.
