Justice League Snyder Cut: 10 Reasons It Could Be A TERRIBLE Idea
5. It's A Gimmick To Drive Up HBO Max Subscriptions
It surely can't be a coincidence that the Snyder Cut of Justice League was officially announced exactly one week before Warner Media's HBO Max becomes the latest combatant in the streaming wars. The marketplace for over-the-top services is becoming increasingly crowded, and it certainly appears as though the media conglomerate were keeping it as the ace up their sleeve in order to guarantee a surge in subscribers.
Most people can't afford to pay for every platform available, meaning that every new service that gets launched faces a battle to stand out in the crowd. With competition fiercer than ever, nobody is going to come close to Netflix's 183 million customers or the 100 million Amazon subscribers, as evidenced by the early struggles faced by both Apple TV+ and Quibi.
It might sound a little cynical, but it also seems highly unlikely that the Snyder Cut of Justice League would have ever become more than a pipe-dream were the studio's parent company not launching their own streaming service in the near future, one that will require high-profile original content in order to maximize their huge investment.
