Marvel Cinematic Universe: Every Upcoming Film Ranked By Anticipation
4. Thor: Ragnarok
Release Date: November 3, 2017
Though Thor rejoined his fellow Avengers in last year's Age of Ultron, by the time Ragnarok rolls around next year, it will have been four years since Thor: The Dark World left a slew of loose ends behind and questions dangling. With such a long wait to find out so much from that film (what happened to Odin? What has Loki been doing on the throne?) as well as picking up Thor's investigation into the Infinity Stones, Ragnarok has a lot of catching up to do on top of moving Thor's own story forward.
Compared to the Iron Man and Captain America films, the Thor films haven't quite been as well-received, but the promise that Ragnarok will be to Thor's series what The Winter Soldier was to Captain America's is enticing. Even with no footage released yet - aside from the popular mockumentary that introduced Darryl, of course - the anticipation for the film is already rising higher than either of the other films thanks to director Taika Waititi's unique sensibilities suggesting we'll be getting a film that's just as funny as it will be epic in its efforts to adapt the Ragnarok event, the highly-requested Planet Hulk gladiator story, and whatever else is in store.
Thor's taking a massive trip across the cosmos that will feature faces old and new, from MCU stalwarts like Bruce Banner, Odin, Heimdall, and Loki to additions like Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, Karl Urban's Skurge, Cate Blanchett's Hela, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster. Even further, the mid-credits scene of Doctor Strange has suggested that that character may have a role to play in Thor's adventure as well, and with so much going for it, Ragnarok has every shot at giving Thor's solo series the shot in the arm it needs to leave fans raving.
