Marvel Phase 3: 15 Outrageous Predictions That Could Change Everything
5. Black Widow Actually Has Her Own Movie
The Prediction
More than 10 years after the initial plans for a Black Widow movie were killed off by the failure of Aeon Flux at the box office (nobody believed female-centric actioners could sell after that, sadly), one of the secret Marvel movies already planned for 2020 is unveiled as Black Widow's long-awaited stand-alone.
In it, we could see her exploring her past more (perhaps in a prequel to Infinity War that sits outside of linear chronology, because that's the only way to do it), and discover exactly what the red in her ledger that haunts her is, and what happened in Budapest.
The Implications
Marvel need to start making female-led movies. Sure, Captain Marvel and Ant-Man & The Wasp are the first MCU movies to feature titular female characters, but it's a travesty that the most well-established lady in the series hasn't had her own story yet.
That could then open up further opportunities for so-called "lesser characters" like Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch to get their own spin-offs too, as Marvel look to branch out even further. Here's hoping.
