Marvel’s Next Avenger’s Film #11: Guardians of the Galaxy

Director: Looking at this project I can't help but think that if it wasn't based on a preexisting property it would probably sound like one of those weird projects coming from an indie director who somehow suckered a major studio into footing the bill (which come to think of it is a perfect to describe Chris Nolan's Batman movies). With that in mind two names jump to the top of my "I really wish I had the power to make this happen" list: Duncan Jones and Darren Aronofsky. Jones has made a name for himself with mind bending movies like Moon and Source Code, but is still new enough in the Hollywood scene that he could be hired on for the kind of smaller fees that notoriously (and justifiably) frugal Marvel Studios are reputed to prefer paying. Meanwhile bigger, but still indie feeling Aronofsky has spent around a decade or so hovering around the outer periphery of nerdy genres. He's been attached to projects like Watchmen, Batman Year One (which would have had him on script and been directed by Frank Miller), Lone Wolf and Cub, a remake of Robocop and most recently The Wolverine (a prequel sequel that is aiming to ignore most of X-Men Origins Wolverine in favor of doing a bad ass 'Logan goes to Japan' story). All of those projects have either fallen by the wayside or been passed over to other hands. This would be a chance to correct the slate by giving Darren a chance to get his nerd on, while also giving movie audiences a super hero flick they'll never forget. Even more appealing is the realization that this would more or less be the first "team/ensemble" movie for Aronofsky. Most of his movies focus on singular characters struggling with dark urges. Even Requiem For A Dream which has a great cast and four main characters, is largely the separate stories of four characters that overlap. Most of the powerful scenes in the movie are focused on a single character at a time. This would be the first time that the director would be focusing on multiple characters working together. Whatever Marvel chooses to do, it's going to be exciting to see unfold both on and off camera. If you missed them, here are our first nine entries in this series:#1: Ms. Marvel#2: Doctor Strange#3: Luke Cage and Iron Fist#4: Ant-Man and Wasp#5: Black Panther#6: Namor#7: Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver#8: Moon Knight#9: Deathlok#10: Captain Britain
