MCU: 10 Best Characters Introduced In Phase 4 (So Far)
1. Yelena Belova/Black Widow
Black Widow was one of the MCU’s few misses due to its competent but uninspired craft and feeling that the famed spy/Avenger should have gotten her solo movie years earlier. That said, the movie was not an out and out disaster.
Scarlett Johannsson reminded us why we fell in love with Natasha Romanoff in the first place and David Harbour’s portrayal of Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian was fun to watch.
The easy standout, however, was Florence Pugh’s masterful performance as Yelena belova. Natasha’s younger adopted sister is every bit as lethal as her more famous sister, but brings her own sensibilities to the table. For starters, Yelena’s droll sense of humour was hilarious to watch in her debut movie, especially her ribbing of Natasha’s posing during her superhero battles.
In addition to this, her strong admiration of her family (flaws and all) highlighted her more emotional side and how ruthless the Red Room program truly was. Her appearance in the Hawkeye series gave the character some closure regarding her sister’s death, and watching her play off Kate Bishop was an incredible sign of things to come.
