MCU: 14 Things You Learn Rewatching Guardians Of The Galaxy
10. The Collector And Nova Corps Are Wasted

Guardians of the Galaxy does some great bits of world (or rather, galaxy) building and introduces a bunch of new characters from across Marvel comics, but it also wastes a couple of its biggest.
Benicio del Toro's The Collector, introduced properly after his uncredited cameo in the Thor: The Dark World stinger, shows up to explain the Infinity Stones and then, despite his power and intrigue, does nothing else. Given del Toro's ability to make a supporting player stand out and really craft a character, it's got to be seen as a complete waste.
Even worse is Nova Prime Irani Rael, played by the great Glenn Close, who only really turns up for a glorified cameo. The same goes for Nova Corps as a whole really. Despite John C. Reilly getting a few good lines, there's not too much work done to really let us know who they are or why they might be so important, nor little sign that they can actually be trusted with an Infinity Stone, especially as it doesn't get into the Nova Force. Which will at least explain why it'll be so easy for Thanos to destroy them.
