Thor: Ragnarok was a game changer for the God of Thunder's solo franchise. The first two movies left a lot to be desired, particularly The Dark World, however Taika Waititi made the third movie a wacky, vibrant, Guardians-esque masterpiece. And with it coming so soon before Infinity War, there was plenty of intrigue surrounding how they might tie in together.

While many expected Hela to be revealed as the MCU version of Mistress Death from the comics, acting as Thanos' love interest, her death before the end of the movie quashed these rumours. We did however, get a glimpse into the opening of the third Avengers movie.

While Thor and Loki are discussing their future, Thanos' ship, the Sanctuary II, appears in front of them. Though we didn't get to see the big bad himself, even just knowing he was somewhere on that ship was enough to heighten excitement for the next installment even more so than before.

This leads directly to exactly where Infinity War begins, give or take the five minutes or so it would have took Thanos and his children to destroy the Asgardians on board, including Thor and Heimdall.
