MCU Phase 4: 10 Marvel Movies Taika Waititi Should Direct
6. Ghost Rider
The Nicolas Cage-led Ghost Rider movies have all but vanished into obscurity these days, and nothing of value was lost. Quite how they managed to waste a brilliant character and star-studded cast so completely (twice) is a mystery, but enough time has passed now that Ghost Rider can be initiated into the MCU and get the film he deserves.
There’s been quite a few Ghost Riders down the years, with Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher, currently operating under the moniker of Cosmic Ghost Rider in the new Guardians Of The Galaxy. However, there’s only one real contender to be the MCU Ghost Rider: Johnny Blaze.
Not to be confused with Johnny Storm (who also sets himself ablaze), the original Ghost Rider was stuntman who was fused with Zarathos, the spirit of vengeance, after making a deal with Mephisto to save his father from a terminal illness. It’s dark, but it’s the kind of over the top dark Waititi could really have some fun with.
Ghost Rider’s enchanted chain, magical motorcycle, hellfire spitting shotgun and of course, his flaming skull all have the perfect amount of absurdity for the New Zealander to sink his teeth into.
