20 Most Underrated Horror Movies EVER

17. Scream 3

Of all the attempts to "reclaim" besmirched movies from decades past, Scream 3 makes one of the more persuasive cases for itself.

At the time of its release, many criticised the threequel for effectively indulging in many of the chintzy narrative tropes its predecessor had so lovingly sent up.

And Scream 3 is certainly guilty-as-charged in some respects - Ghostface's magic voice-changer is an absolutely ridiculous piece of technology for the year 2000, and yet watched today in an era of AI soundalikes, it's tough not to soften one's distaste for it.

Beyond that, though, time has been extremely kind to Scream 3's overarching themes, especially its exploration of systemic abuse in Hollywood - ensuring the film underwent a re-evaluation in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

Elsewhere there's Parker Posey's absurdly entertaining performance as the unforgettable Jennifer Jolie, and as Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) character development goes, it closes the door on her trauma in a meaningful way - even if unpicked by all the sequels since.

And with the recent Scream 7 scoring series-worst reviews from critics and fans alike, we can at least all agree that Scream 3 is no longer the consensus-worst installment.
