5. Blomkamp Worked On The Story With Weaver

If you're wondering about where this deluge of Alien 5 rumours, news and confirmations has come from, it's almost entirely because both Blomkamp and Weaver find them selves being carted around together to promote their latest film Chappie. The confines of a tour bus, plus Blomkamp's concept art, multiplied by the fact Weaver always gets asked about another Alien, equals this explosion of interest. But it's the fact that they've both been in close creative quarters for the last year or so that's spawned the concept in the first place. Without any prompting from a major studio, Blomkamp began work on Alien 5 in his spare time, but it wasn't until he met Weaver on set that the ideas began to take shape. Speaking after the initial announcement was made, the South African director said that he €œtalked to her about her experience making those films and what she thought about Ripley and everything else", before going on to confirm that Weaver's ideas and feedback had "changed the film I wanted to make into something different".
