Under the Shadow filmmaker Babak Anvari came back with a serious return to form recently in Hallow Road - a superbly efficient horror-thriller starring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys as parents who attempt to help cover up a car accident caused by their teenage daughter.

What's most immediately, refreshingly unexpected about Anvari's film is that despite starring buzzy actors like Pike and Rhys, Hallow Road is set mostly inside of a car and runs for just 80 tight minutes.

But thanks to a sharp script and the performances of the aforementioned actors, this is a compulsively watchable psychological horror that makes the absolute most of its few resources.

It's absolutely dripping with moody intrigue and takes a few cleverly unexpected turns ahead of a haunting climax, again proving that when the foremost elements are well thought-out, talented filmmakers can make a whole lot from a little.

Yet despite the superb dual acting showcase at its core, Hallow Road came and went in a mere blink.
