One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
28. A Writers Guild of America Arbitration - Guardians Of The Galaxy
James Gunn has developed a reputation over the years of only directing projects that he himself has written, something that he has done for all seven of his feature films. However, this went slightly differently with the first Guardians of the Galaxy.
Long before Gunn entered the world of the MCU, a Guardians of the Galaxy script had been worked on in the background by Nicole Perlman, who wrote the characters, including Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) as a Han Solo-style rogue, and the planet Morag, knowing full well that she wouldn't be the final writer to work on it.
After Gunn came in, there were significant changes made to the point that Marvel Studios had to go through a Writers Guild of America Arbitration, from which Perlman was awarded a writing credit. According to The Reign of Marvel Studios, Gunn disagreed with the ruling, feeling that Perlman's version was completely different to his own.
While Nicole Perlman herself has stayed gracious about the whole thing, her friend reportedly said that she threw a "F*ck James Gunn party" when the film was released before going on to help pen Captain Marvel years later.
