10. Wanda Wasn't Originally The Villain - Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Like the rest of the world, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was greatly affected by COVID-19 when the pandemic hit. Productions were shut down, releases were swapped around and changed altogether, and for the first time since 2009, there was a calendar year with no new MCU entry.

There was, however, a silver lining for Michael Waldron, who penned the Doctor Strange sequel. As per Assembled: The Making of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, when he was brought onto the project, he had three weeks to write his version of the story that was already in production, though the shutdown allowed him six months to start again completely.

In this time, he decided to essentially tear down the story and start from scratch, with one of the aspects to see a big change being the antagonist. While Wanda Maximoff was always planned to turn villainous, this would have originally happened at the end of the film instead of her being the big bad of the whole thing.

Though she proved to be fantastic in the role, with her story continuing from WandaVision and fitting into Doctor Strange's world perfectly, the revelation that Wanda would be a villain took Elizabeth Olsen somewhat by surprise. It's hard to argue that she was one of, if not the best part of a movie that proved largely divisive.
