One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie

9. The Mandalorian Knock On Effect - Thor: Love And Thunder

There has always been a big decision to be made around movies in terms of using practical or computer effects, the benefits of each one, and when best to use them. CGI can be flawless when done well, but when the final product is lacking, practical effects begin to look better and better.

Thor: Love and Thunder utilised both. While New Asgard was a set almost completely practically built, the fourth Thor outing was also the first in the MCU to utilise the revolutionary CGI technology known as The Volume.

The concept is simple. Instead of using green screens, where the actors on set have nothing to work with other than a literal screen of green, The Volume is a huge dome that can project 360-degree images, backgrounds, and sets in real time, to give the actors something to work with. It's an incredibly impressive innovation that was brought over to Marvel from Star Wars by Taika Waititi.

In between Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi worked on The Mandalorian, voicing IG-11 and, more importantly, directing the eighth and final episode of season one, Redemption, where he got to play with this new toy. As with Eternals, you can knock large parts of Love and Thunder, but it's hard to deny how spectacular it looks, which is in no small part down to this, by way of a galaxy far, far away.
