Oscars 2022: Every Acting Nominee Ranked

9. Kirsten Dunst - The Power Of The Dog

King Richard Will Smith
Netflix

Kirsten Dunst is the tragic beating heart of The Power of the Dog, portraying a widow who struggles to raise her son after marrying into a new family.

Emotionally terrorised by her terrifying new brother-in-law and unable to cope with his relationship to her son, Dunst's portrayal of a woman who succumbs to drinking her troubles away in the midst of a messy marriage is both understated and soul-destroying.

The way she brings to life every insecurity and worry of Rose whilst her mental state falters is so devastating and effortless, it's almost hard to notice what she's actually achieving in the role.

It's powerful stuff you'll become more drawn to on re-watches, and it's all the more exciting Dunst got the nomination when you consider she's nominated alongside her real-life partner Jesse Plemons. Awww.
