Paul W.S. Anderson’s Films Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Event Horizon
Event Horizon is so good it feels like an anomaly on Anderson’s CV. It can be summarised as Hellraiser meets Alien, where a rescue crew explore an abandoned spaceship, and all hell literally breaks loose.
Event Horizon of one of the rare big budget horror movies that are actually scary and the potentially silly premise is grounded by an awesome cast, including Lawrence Fishburne, Sam Neill and Hello to Jason Isaacs. It’s visually stunning, with the director lovingly turning the ship itself into a gothic nightmare. The editing is a little choppy – a result of the movie being heavily trimmed for violence before release – but the tension never lets up.
Despite being a box office failure the cult surrounding Event Horizon has only continued to grow, thanks to some iconic imagery – the visions of Hell are pure nightmare fuel – and the set design. It’s Anderson’s best movie by a long way, and while that may not be a high mountain to climb, he at least deserves some kudos for it.
