Predicting 20 Highest Grossing Movies Of 2018

7. Solo: A Star Wars Story ($790 Million)

Star Wars Solo Han Chewie

Release Date: May 25

This is another fascinating one to predict, if only because the unassailable might of the Star Wars franchise is being pitted against some incredibly uneasy pre-release PR, rumours that Disney expects it to disappoint, and a shockingly low-key marketing campaign which has yet to ignite much hype at all.

It's a live-action Star Wars movie, so there's no way it'll bomb, but the polarising response to The Last Jedi and general iffy sentiment surrounding the film will take a decent bite out of it regardless, with some fans instead waiting for its home video release.

Sure, surprisingly strong reviews and word-of-mouth could give it a significant boost, but that's not terribly likely. By any other metric $790 million would be a great result, but as the only one of the recent Star Wars movies to gross less than $1 billion, it'll be quietly deemed a disappointment by Disney.
