After the immense commercial disappointment of Justice League, Aquaman is one of the year's most intriguing box office enigmas.

Jason Momoa's effortless charm and James Wan's reliable direction will probably propel it to solid success, and while it won't be a runaway hit, $590 million against $170 million in such a crowded holiday field would be a strong showing for the Atlantean's solo movie.

Strong word-of-mouth could push it to over-perform, but sensibly it'll end up the lowest-grossing film in the DCEU to date, yet given Aquaman's niche status, that's not a ding against it at all.
