Predicting The Next 10 Movies That Will Make Over $1 Billion

7. Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars Episode I almost hit $1 billion way back in 1999 (it was shy by just over $10 million), which, given the much lower ticket cost, shows just how successful a much-hyped Star Wars movie can be at the box office (even if The Phantom Menace didn't do as well in the eyes of critics). For the newly-named The Force Awakens to not repeat that would require something totally destructive - even if the teaser trailer featured a Jar Jar Binks voiceover everyone would still see it. Although there's the potential of a bad Star Wars (something that never entered fans' minds before the prequels), Episode VII has enough going for it to be a film to rival The Avengers; the original cast, practical effects and John Williams are all returning. As with The Hobbit, even those unconvinced by J.J. Abrams (a bit misguided - he may have made Star Trek, but he's always been a Wars-y at heart) will still turn out for a return to that galaxy far, far away. There's something almost mythical about a new Star Wars, with the place it holds in both movie history and the public's affections making it already feel like a sure-thing. Along with Age Of Ultron, this could easily be a film to pass the $2 billion mark, but even if it misses out on that, $1 billion is all but guaranteed. Which is good for Disney, who shelled out $4.05 billion for the rights to the series.
