Predicting The 10 Biggest Box Office Bombs Of 2018
5. Annihilation
Budget: $55 million
Predicted Box Office: $25 million (projected $85 million loss, minus estimated $30 million contributed by Netflix for final loss of $55 million)
Now, it's worth mentioning that Annihilation is a very special case as far as box office is concerned, considering that it will be released on Netflix just 17 days after its limited theatrical release.
This will obviously put a huge dent in its worldwide box office, but it also means that, with Netflix apparently covering a large portion of the Natalie Portman-starring sci-fi's budget (we'll estimate $30 million), it won't bomb in quite the same way that the rest of these movies will.
Paramount reportedly deemed the film "too intellectual" for mainstream crowds, hence why the deal with Netflix was reached, and so even with the presence of Portman and Oscar Isaac, it's hard to imagine the movie pulling in more than half its budget at the box office.
When the beans have been counted, Annihilation may not be quite the DOA flop it looks like on paper, but it's still going to sit firmly in the red.
